The vote
Terms & Conditions
Last updated: 25 August 2026
These are the official Terms & Conditions for the Casque d’Or award — the public editorial vote for the Greatest Formula One Driver of All Time, run at lecasquedor.com (the “Site”) by Grand Epreuve Pty Ltd (ACN 702 257 065), Level 10, 387 George Street, Sydney NSW 2000 (“we”, “us”), an Australian company. They form part of the Terms of Use. Casting a ballot means you accept these Terms & Conditions in full.
Casque d’Or® is a registered trade mark. The award is an independent editorial poll to mark 75 years of Formula One World Championship history. It is not a lottery, sweepstake, trade promotion, prize competition or game of chance. No purchase is necessary, there is no element of chance, and no prize is awarded to voters.
This inaugural award launches in Australia first. It is currently open to Australian residents; voting will open to the rest of the world once announced on this Site. These Terms are written to comply with Australian law, including the Australian Consumer Law and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), and are governed by the laws of New South Wales.
1. Eligibility & One-Vote Policy
- The vote launches in Australia first. It is currently open to Australian residents aged 18 or over, and will open to residents of other countries once announced on this Site.
- You must be at least 18 years old on the date you submit your ballot, and you must confirm this on the ballot form.
- Voting is strictly limited to one (1) ballot per person and per email address. Each ballot must be your own, submitted with accurate name and email details by an Australian resident.
- Employees and immediate family of Grand Epreuve Pty Ltd and its partner agencies may vote, but any such ballots are flagged and excluded from any figure presented as an independent public tally.
- Ballots submitted from disposable or role-based email addresses, or that show signs of automation, coordination or other manipulation, may be excluded at our sole discretion. We do not permit voting by bots or scripts.
- Audit and removal right. We reserve the right to audit the full ballot record at any time before, during and after the count. We may remove duplicate entries (more than one ballot from the same person or email address), automated or bot votes, and any ballot submitted in breach of these Terms. Removed ballots are excluded from the final tally, and the number excluded — and the reason — is published with the result.
2. How Votes Are Scored
On each ballot you select exactly three drivers and rank them 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Points are awarded as follows:
- 1st choice (Driver 1) — 3 points
- 2nd choice (Driver 2) — 2 points
- 3rd choice (Driver 3) — 1 point
The full leaderboard remains sealed while voting is open: only the total number of ballots cast is shown publicly until the count is final.
The count is performed on the secured ballot database itself. Ballots excluded under these Terms (duplicates, detected automation, staff and partner-agency ballots) are removed before the totals are calculated. The driver with the highest total points across all valid ballots is the winner.
Tie-breaks. Where two or more drivers finish level on total points, the following tie-breaks apply, in order:
- the driver with the greater number of 1st-place picks;
- then the greater number of 2nd-place picks;
- then the greater number of 3rd-place picks;
- then alphabetical order by last name.
When the result is published we publish alongside it: the total number of ballots received, the number excluded and why, and the point-scoring method above. If a sponsor’s involvement ever extends beyond funding into anything touching the count, that will be disclosed prominently with the result.
3. Privacy & Data Use
When you submit a ballot we collect your full name, email address and confirmation of Australian residency, together with your three ranked driver picks and your confirmation that you are 18 or over. This information is used strictly for vote verification — to enforce the one-vote-per-person rule, to contact you if there is a question about your ballot, and to calculate and audit the result. We handle it in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles; see our Privacy Policy for full detail.
An optional, unticked box on the ballot form lets you consent to Casque d’Or results and future Grand Épreuve award updates. This marketing opt-in is never a condition of voting, is never pre-ticked, and is never bundled into accepting these Terms. If you tick it, we use your email to send you results and future award updates, and you can unsubscribe at any time via the one-click link in every email or by emailing info@grandepreuve.com.
We do not sell your personal information and do not share it with sponsors or commercial partners for their own marketing. Full details of how we collect, hold, use and disclose your personal information — including retention periods, cross-border disclosure, access and correction rights, and complaints — are in our Privacy Policy.
4. Disclaimer
Casque d’Or is an independent, editorial award created by Grand Epreuve Pty Ltd. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or in any way officially connected to Formula One (F1), the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile), Formula One Management, any Formula One team, any driver, or any of their respective sponsors, partners, affiliates or licensees.
All driver names, team names, championship references and historical records are used for editorial identification and historical commentary only. No endorsement or affiliation by any driver, team, the FIA or the Formula One Group is claimed or implied. The result of the vote reflects the editorial opinion of those who chose to participate on this Site; it is not a statement of objective fact about any driver, and it confers no official status or recognition on any driver or team.
5. Candidates
The ballot has two separate sections: every Formula One World Drivers’ Champion from the 1950 season to the 2025 season as recognised by the FIA, and a Wild Card section of celebrated drivers who never won the World Championship. You may rank drivers from either section.
6. How to vote
- Select exactly three drivers and rank them 1st, 2nd and 3rd.
- Enter your first name, last name and email address.
- Confirm you are an Australian resident aged 18 or over.
- Choose whether to opt in to Casque d’Or results and future Grand Épreuve award updates (optional, unticked, never a condition of voting).
- Submit the ballot. You will see an on-screen confirmation when it is recorded.
7. Voting period & announcement
Voting opens with the publication of this page and runs first in Australia. Voting closes at 11:59 pm AEDT on Sunday 21 March 2027 (Sydney time) — two weeks before the Australian Grand Prix. Ballots received after the close of voting are not counted. The winner will be announced on this Site and communicated to subscribers who opted in to updates. Aggregate, anonymised results (points and share of 1st-place picks) may be published for editorial purposes. Individual ballots are never published.
8. Integrity
Ballots are stored in a secured database and are not readable by the public site. We reserve the right to remove ballots that breach these Terms and to correct obvious counting errors before publication of the final result. Our decision on the count is final.
9. Changes
We may amend these Terms & Conditions to correct an error, clarify a point or respond to events beyond our reasonable control. Material changes will be announced on the Site. The “Last updated” date on this page shows the most recent change.
10. Governing law & contact
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you and we submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of that State. They are intended to comply with the Australian Consumer Law and the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Questions about them? Email info@grandepreuve.com or see the Contact page.
